One day, seven films

Today is a big Friday for Tamil cinema. But it is in the hands of the audience to decide whether it is going to be a Good Friday or not. For, seven films are hitting the theatres today, with most of them being ‘small-budget’ ones with lesser known faces in the lead.

Movies that are getting released today, according to trade circles, are Azhagar Malai, Esa, Vannathupoochi, Nesi, Ore Manasu, Netru Pol Indru Illai and Madhavi. It is to be noted that July saw the release of 22 films.

While some welcome this new wave of actors, directors and producers, most veterans opine that this has not done much to the industry. ‘This kind of deluge will dampen the spirit of watching films,’ they feel.
