The Tamilnadu Government fixed ticket rates for various kinds of theaters and charging any amount beyond the maximum rate is legally punishable. However many theaters across the state have been charging exorbitant rates for tickets during the opening weekend of films having star value. They capitalize the mad rush of fans to watch their favorite star’s films on the first day. These violations hardly come under the eye of law.

However an organization called ‘All India Consumer-Human activity against Anti corruption and Crime’ has initiated a campaign to put an end to this illegal technique followed by theatre owners to mint money.

As Superstar Rajinikanth’s magnum opus ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ is gearing up to release on May 9, a statement from the consumer organization has urged film buffs to not buy tickets by paying more than the stipulated rate and to check whether the name of the theatre, rate of the ticket etc have been mentioned in the ticket. If these details are not printed on the tickets or if the tickets are sold at a rate more than what has been stipulated by the Government, the movie goers are urged to launch a complaint with the nearby police station or Commissioner Office or district Collector office in the case of rural areas. The organization has assured that those who present a copy of FIR or CSR filed on such complaints will be rewarded with a special prizes.

This has been done as an initiative to increase consumer awareness on violations in fixing movie ticket rates and formulate steps to curb them.
