Expectations

In the olden times, films based on kids were either fairy tales or some animal based films. With changing times we had many films where the main protagonist was a child. Some of these films went ahead to become landmark films followed by some real life stories related to kids from sports background.

The latest to join this list is 'Poorna', which is based on the real life story of a young mountaineer. The trailer looks promising, but low marketing and no big names attached to the film, the expectations are not that great.

Story

'Poorna' is a real life story of a young tribal girl Poorna (Aditi Inamdar) and her cousin sister Priya (S. Mariya). Poorna and Priya belong to a poor family and are forced not to attend school as their parents failed to pay the fees. One day, Priya comes to know about the government organized welfare schools where students are given wholesome meal. She motivates Poorna to elope with her and join the school.

Sadly, Priya gets caught by her father and is forced to get married to a random stranger. Poorna manages to convince her father to join the school, but her dreams get broken as the school turns out to be totally different than what she had expected. She decided to run away from the school and at that time Poorna meets Praveen Kumar (Rahul Bose), who is in charge of the student's welfare.

With the help of Praveen Kumar, things change and Poornadecide to join a rock climbing camp. It's in the camp, Praveen Kumar and others realize the true potential of Poorna as a natural rock climber and aims to get her to the top of Mount Everest.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The story has been presented in very sweet and simple manner, due to which one can easily connect with the feelings and emotions of the film. The narration might look simple, but has a background filled with layers of child marriage, underage pregnancy, malnutrition in kids, school welfare and few more. None of these layers are preachy nor forced into you. They are placed naturally and in a soothing manner which ends up like a whip on your face.

There are many heartfelt scenes in the movie. The dialogues are sweet and touching. The cinematography is of top notch and in some scenes acts as an additional screenplay in the movie. The background music is amazing and blends beautifully with the flow of the film. 'Kuch Parbat' by Arijit Singh is inspirational.

Director Rahul Bose comes up with a simple yet powerful film, which talks about various issues without being preachy or pseudo intelligent. One can clearly see that his intentions are not to prove any point, but to narrate the simple and sweet tale of the young girl who climbed Mt. Everest.

Rahul deserves full marks to extract fantastic performance from Aditi and S. Mariya. Aditi Inamdar is fantastic.S. Mariya as Priya is outstanding.Rahul Bose is good in his part and blends well with the flow of the film. Heeba Shah, Arif Zakaria, Harsha Bardhan, Dhritiman Chatterjee and all others lend good support in their small part.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

Everything is easily shown in the movie. The hardship track seems to be missing. The finale part of Mt. Everest should have been meatier. Lack of face value and low marketing might hamper the film. The real life story has more substance than the one presented in the movie.

The climax part was bit hurried and needed some drama in it. Rahul Bose's character was over sweet and did not have any layers attached to it.

Final 'Glitz'

'Poorna' is a beautiful messaged based film which displays a real life heroic tale of a young girl from the rural parts of India.
