Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai

Friday, May 15, 2015 • Tamil Comments

Until recently, the word 'Purampokku' has been used only in derogatory sense in general communication. In four years from the critical acclaims for 'Peranmai', director Jananathan announced to introduce the original perspective of the word, with a message. 'Purampokku' does not mean neglected, but actually stands for any property that is common to one and all, and cannot be bound by ownership of any individual. With that, the principal shooting for the film began in the end of 2013 with Arya and Vijay Sethupathi on board. By early last year, interesting insights about the film started showing up.

Arya carries the getup that bears resemblance to Bhagat Singh. Jananathan revealed that 'Purampokku' is a political action thriller which casts Arya as a social activist. On the other hand, Vijay Sethupathi has a very unique role in the movie. An integral part of the Indian railways, but never shone much light on - a Khalasi is what he will play. Shaam is also noted to play a key role in the movie, and Karthika has been roped in as the heroine. The film was shot extensively in the northern high reaches, desert lands of the country and back in town, in Chennai. Music for the flick is composed by new talent Varshan, and is expected to release any time soon. 'Purampokku' is in post production at the moment and will treat us this summer.
