The filing of nominations for Pudukottai by-election, which was scheduled for June 12, saw a new twist on Monday, when the district secretary of Rajinikanth Fans Association Sridhar filed his nomination papers.

Sridhar, who is an ardent fan of the Superstar and associated with the fans association since 1983, announced that he was contesting on behalf of Rajinikanth fans organization. However, he said he was yet to inform the head office about his decision.

"If Thalaivar and the headquarters support me, I would sure win the polls," said Sridhar, recalling that people and fans had been waiting for a long time for the political entry of the Superstar. "We have been carrying out a lot of social services here," he said.

Parties like the DMK, MDMK, Congress, CPI(M), CPI BJP, PMK and VCK had announced that they would not contest the by-election, while AIADMK and DMDK had fielded candidates. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of CPI MLA Muthukumaran in a road mishap recently.
