The magical Jodi of Ranbir Kapoor and Anurag Basu who enthralled the viewers with ‘Barfi’ are back with ‘Jagga Jasoos’. Anurag Basu , who is known for experimenting with movies this time is reviving Bollywood’s winning formula of musical that once was the safest bet at the box office.

According to reports ‘Jagga Jasoos’ will be having about 25 songs and will be an out-and-out musical with a pinch of suspense. For the younger generation this would be a novelty where the movie’s lead actor Ranbir and Katrina Kaif will even communicate in songs, a trend popular in theatre in the early 30’s and 40’s.

Later when movies took centre space filmmakers could not resist the captivating appeal of songs hence music played a key role in the movies made in the early 30’s and 40’s. In fact in 1932 Madan Theatres' made a movie called ‘Indra Sabha’ that boosted of as many as 71 songs in the film.

Further music maestro Naushad’s ‘Ratan’ celebrated 75 weeks in Mumbai thanks to his super hit songs. Readers would be shocked to know the movie made twice the revenue from HMV’s sale of records than from the box of collection of the movie!

Recently in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’, a similar approach was experimented in parts to great success. However this time Anurag Basu wishes to explore the same technique in a full length movie akin to Amol Palekar’s ‘Thodasa Romani Ho Jayein’.

The Ranbir Kapoor and Kaitrina Kaif starrer has music by Pritam Chakraborty. If the music works than a fun filled musical is expected but if the music misfires than the movie will be a dud like ‘Thodasa Romani Ho Jayein’.
