The critically acclaimed Ranvir Shorey had to gain a whopping 20 kilos to play the protagonist in PNC’s Fatso directed by Rajat Kapoor - a romantic-comedy packaged in with a calorie count!

Talking about how he prepared for the role says Ranvir, “For Fatso I had to gain 15-20 kilos. Initially it was needed to gain the weight as we couldn’t afford prosthetics make up around chin, neck and arms. I did wear a fat suit for the body but the face too needed to look proportionate”. Adding that “Although it was a health risk, I went ahead. In fact, I’ve even got high blood pressure due to the weight I put on suddenly. If it hadn’t been Rajat Kapoor’s film, maybe I wouldn’t have done it. It’s my third film with Rajat and that’s why I have implicit faith in him”.

In fact the actor took to practicing Kalaripayattu, a martial art form that was born in Kerala for over a year to shed the weight. “Gaining weight wasn’t tough, losing it was for which I have worked really hard. For almost a year I practiced Kalaripayattu to shed the flab,” adds Shorey.

Pritish Nandy Communications presents Fatso, a slice of life comedy that takes a foray into the idea of Identity – Directed by Rajat Kapoor of Raghu Romeo and Mithya fame, Fatso starring Ranvir Shorey, Gul Panag, Purab Kohli, Neil Bhoopalam and Gunjan Bakshi takes audiences through an accidental incident, that leads the 300 pound protagonist played by Ranvir Shorey into his afterlife, a bureaucratic mess where sometimes the wrong man finds his life cut short.

The out and out comedy is already a subject of heated discussion overseas, having traveled to several international festivals including South Asian Film Festival in New York, Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, Shanghai International Film Festival, and was also chosen as arecipient of the prestigious Golden Palm Award at the 2010 Mexico International Film Festival.
