Vidyasagar Rao, the incumbent Governor of Maharashtra and who was till recently the interim Governor of Tamil Nadu as well, has hailed the Tamil print and television media of working very hard to lead the people on the democratic path.

Rao has penned a book titled ‘Those Eventful Days’ about his tumultuous 13-month long tenure as the (interim) Governor of Tamil Nadu.  The book was launched at the Raj Bhawan in Chennai yesterday in which Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, State Governor Banwarilal Purohit, chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswmi and Rao took part. Rao has documented everything from his first meeting with Jayalalithaa till the events which followed the demise of ‘Puratchithalaivi’ in the 12 chapters of his book.

“I have always held high regards for the late Jalyalalithaa, who was courteous enough to welcome me at the Airport when I first took over as interim Governor.  I was also on good terms with the ruling party leaders. In view of the extra-ordinary situation prevailing in the State after Jayalalithaa’s demise, the Opposition parties were at variance with my thoughts but no party or leader ever behaved roughly with me.

“Media in Tamil Nadu is an example for the whole country to follow; they were keenly observing Governor’s utterances and action.  In fact, some editorials in journals helped me in taking further action on certain issues as they had clearly spelt out precedents in the case and given an idea for the future.

“I feel I’m obliged to express my heartfelt congratulations to the print and television media in the State for respecting and handling democracy in an admirable manner,” Rao concluded his speech.
