Rathinirvedam

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

Adolescent love had been one emotion that every man will pass through in his life time. One of the purest emotions in life, there is a very thin line that separates between love and lust in this age. A classic Mollywood hit of the late seventies 'Rethinirvedham' which told much about this, is now presently being remade in the same title. The original was such a show stopper that if you go for a poll in Mollyood about which movie is the most eagerly awaited one in 2011, the undoubted number one will be this remake of Rathinirvedham. The new 'Rathinirvedham' will have  Shwetha Menon in  the role of Rethi Chechy which was made immortal in the original by Jayabharathy.

The original movie by the classic duo, scripted by late P Padmarajan and directed by late Bharathan, told a coming-of-age story of sexual awakening where a young man (played by Krishnachandran) falls for an older woman named Rathi. Director T.K. Rajeev Kumar is in the helm of the crew of this remake while relatively fresher star Sreejith plays the role of Pappu, the young man.An engineering graduate who hails from Thripunithura, Sreejith has to convince his parents before taking up this role. Before his entry into films, Sreejith was into modelling and debuted into filmdom with  Fazil's 'Living together' in which he played one among the three friends of the hero.

The basic story of the new version is said to be  the same as the original. But here Rajeevkumar will be trying to make a look through  a new perspective which will be more subtle than the original. And hence the movie will not have extensive sensuous scenes, but will focus more on the emotional relationship between the young lad and older lady. The  crew has  shot the few 'very special scenes' of the movie away from the mob in the studio sets.

Shwetha Menon who is selected for the role feels herself to be lucky to depict such a role written by a classic maker. She has not yet  seen the original nor have done much homework, so as to retain her originality in doing the character. The actress who is said to put on weight to play the role, also says that she is  willing to take the risks of any comparisons. She was said to be a deliberate choice for the role as the director decided that the mannerisms and the body language of the character should suit the environment of the present day.

K.P.A.C. Lalitha is the only member of the cast who was also part of the original film. Manian pilai raju, Guiness Pakru, Resmi Boban are also in the cast of the movie. This is the hundredth movie from music director M.Jayachandran, who sets the music to lyrics by Murugan kattakada.

' Rathinirvedam,' produced under the banner of Revathy Kalamandir, will hit the screens in June.
