Eight songs for Kalimannu
Thursday, July 25, 2013 • Malayalam Comments

Now a days, the trend of adding half a dozen songs to a movie has subsided but Blessy in his latest Kalimannu has packed it with eight songs. Apart from the Malayalam songs written by O N V kurup, the movie also features another three Hindi songs . Blessy is continuing his companionship with M Jayachandran again post the super success of the songs of his last 'Pranayam'. But out of the eight songs, only three extends to five minutes while the rest five ends up in around two minutes.

'Lalee Malaroliye' The lullaby is presented in the voices of Mridula Warrier and Sudeep Kumar is one of the most heartfelt songs heard recently. This gentle and soothing song is sure to invade the chart tops for long.  Mridula Warrier proves her mettle as a promising singer with a mature rendering. From the flute in the background by Navin to the effects added on, the song has everything in the right place. The lyrics mostly deal with the mother comparing the expected offspring to every pretty things in the world.

'Parayan Kothichoren' is a love songs sung by the lovely voice of Shreya Goshal, one of the favorite voces of the music director. She defly sungs the song, ably supporteding the decision to have her for it.

Ganapathy - A beat filled devotional song, with Sanskrit lyrics. Another version of many remixed devotionals of recent times  sung by Haricharan. The song is pretty short ending in less than 3 minutes.

Gardbha raksha - Another soft song with Sanksrit slokas, composed with modern arrangements to suit the modern day listener. The voice of Janany Aiyyar is impressive ad so is the mood of this 2.25 minutes song.

Ardhramee/salabhamayi - A two minute bit with less accompaniments  of 'Parayan'. A slow and soft numbers that just seems to take off from a similar track of their last `Pranayam. The  video featuring Shreya is gaining more popularity than the song itself

Hum Ne to chod dhi - M Jayachandran continues his Hindi musical outings in Mallu singh with this `Hum Ne To. A typical Punjabi track  with a bit of electronic guitar thrown in amidst groovy beats. Popular Bollywood singer Sukhwinder Singh debuts into Malayalam with the song though Sonu Kakkar, takes the major share of the song.

Jhoo Loon - A sensuous duet with Suchithra, and  Vijay yesudas at the helm. Vijay tries to jump over the slang problems while a Malayalee sings one in Hindi. A typical Jatin-Lalit type songs, but interesting interludes of harmonium giving it a special charm.  Again, this too ends below two minutes in duration.

Dil lena - This is a beat filled dance song rendered in the playful voice of Sonu Kakkar. The rendering style reminds you of Asha Bhonsle and Alisha Chinoi in their best years. Jayachandran uses every variant of drums for the song which evidently  gives a feel that the musician is not in his familiar territory.

A must hear album for the lovers of soft, soothing numbers.
