India’s Oscar dream has most often been kept alive by two bright Indian actors-filmmakers: Aamir Khan and Kamal Haasan. But Resul Pookutty has overtaken them to become the third Indian to win an Oscar. Yet, the talented sound designer says he is a big fan of Kamal Haasan.

“I was a student of the Film Institute and cherish meeting Kamal Haasan a decade ago. “As a fresher out of the film institute, I discussed a project with Kamal Haasan. This was for an ambitious project that required live sound, instead of dubbing voices. Everything went on well and it was almost finalized when Kamal Haasan announced that he had dropped the idea of using live sound for the project,” says Resul, who calls himself a fan of the actor.

But destiny was the bring to duo together, and this time, it was Kamal Haasan himself calling on Resul to congratulate him on winning the Oscars. “Kamal Haasan called me to congratulate me and I then told him that I was the man he discussed that project with, a decade ago,” says Resul, who is currently involved in giving the sound effects for the multilingual historic project, ‘Pazhassi Raja’. “I really like Kamal Haasan and am confident of working with him in the future,” says a hopeful Resul.
