In his interview to IndiaGlitz, Sai Dharam Tej recently said that Katrina Kaif was an example of what one can day if there is proper determination. "Dancing skills can be improved through sheer hard work. I would quote the example of Katrina Kaif. When she was new, her dancing talent was roundly thrashed. Over time, she has grown up to be an excellent dancer. Take the song 'Kala Chashma', for example", he said.

Ram Gopal Varma, defending Katrina Kaif on being conferred the Smita Patil Memorial Award, has said something similar. "Katrina came in with no voice, no acting, no dancing ability and then kept on shocking everybody with her ever continuous meteoric rise", he has tweeted.

Whatever may be RGV and others' opinion about Katrina deserving the award, it can't be taken away that Smita Patil was someone who "led the small cinema movement in India", whereas Katrina is not held as a fabulous actress.
