After 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan', 'Rockstar' is yet another instance of a youth film opening to mixed reviews but still ending up being a winner at the box office. The Imran Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer was patronised by urban youth and 'Rockstar' has gone a few steps ahead with audience in metros and other big cities by and large accepting the film. Of course there is a section of audience which hasn't quite warmed up to the narrative that Imtiaz Ali adopted for his newest love story. However there still has been a substantial audience that has liked (and in some cases even loved) the film, hence resulting in steady footfalls.

At the end of its first weekend, the film has garnered around 34 crores at the box office which is a very good total. As predicted in this column last week, the film did fetch an opening in the range of 70% which was always on the cards. Though with mixed reviews coming the film's way, one had doubts around how well would it sustain as the days progressed. However with weekend throwing good numbers and weekdays too promising a reasonable run with no crash whatsoever, 'Rockstar' is already in a hit zone.

The film is now all set to cross the 63 crore total set by Ranbir's 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani', hence turning into his biggest solo success till date. Having said that, it won't come anywhere close to 92 crores in collection that Ranbir's 'Raajneeti' (a multi starrer) had enjoyed. Still, for Ranbir the film has come as a huge shot in the arm since his last 'Anjaana Anjaani' was only an above average affair and a big commercial success was the need of the hour.

With this film, Imtiaz's stocks have gone higher up too as the film will now be a bigger money spinner than his last 'Love Aaj Kal'. With three of his films being commercial successes (including 'Jab We Met') and his only box office flop (Socha Na Tha) a good success on satellite and home video circuit, Imtiaz is definitely looking at a great innings ahead.
