It has been said that Kamal Hassan's magnum opus, Viswaroopam, became too lengthy, and, in order to chop it off, he decided to use major portions for another film, which some sections of the media have called Viswaroopam-2. Kamal has come out in the open to say that there is no truth in this version.

It is very much true that there will be a sequel to Viswaroopam, but it is only in the imagination of the director-actor. As of the film, which is set to release in July, he says that its premise and story are first-of-its-kind. "I ventured to make this film only after I was convinced that the audience will like it for sure. We have never seen such a story on the Indian screen in the past. Viswaroopam touches upon some issues of contemporary national and international politics."

Kamal is on record saying that Viswaroopam is the costliest film in his career. He plays Vishwanath and Wiz in the film. From what is heard of the story, he is not playing double roles but only one. While Vishwanath is a Kathak dancer, Wiz is an FBI agent.
