Except the lead actor-director, there is no star value in the film. The film was made on a shoe string budget, The promotions were minimal but unique. With all these backed by a topical content that carried a bundle of good and relevant messages, Samuthirkani's 'Appa' has turned out to be a super hit of the year.

The film which released on July 1 a few weeks before the release of Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Kabali', is still running in select screens across Tamil Nadu. It has sustained the 'Kabali' storm and also many other subsequent biggies that released and failed to with hold for a week or two in theatres.

Trade sources reveal that 'Appa' has collected a theatrical share of almost Rs.6 crores which is a huge for a low budget, non-star film like this.

People have lapped up the film for its clean content that had some relevant messages about the role of parents especially the father, in the all round development of a child . It also had a level headed portrayal of adolescent attraction towards the opposite gender. The film is also an eye opener on certain greedy private schools whose inhuman ways of training children to score centums end up risking their lives.

The success of 'Appa' is yet another reassurance of the fact that Tamil people will never let down a film with good and decent content.

IndiaGlitz congratulates actor-director Samuthirakani and his 'Appa' team for the well-deserved success and we wish to see more such quality films from the team.
