Sandram

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Telugu Comments

Director Kumar Raju seeks to tell the story of a father-son relationship in Sandram.  What makes this one a special encounter is the lead characters happen to be fishermen.  This bucolic film chronicles the pleasures and pains, emotions, and relationships in the lives of the men (and women) on the 'margin'.  The debutante director here uses the songs only to help the characters express the unexpressed emotions and feelings.  The aboriginal dialect only adds a touch of realism to Sandram.

Carefully shot in coastal Kakinada, Sandram is readying for release.  Starring Arjun and Deepika, the film comes across as an offbeat entertainer.  The music is by Krish.

The deglamourised looks of the hero and the heroine, the claim of the producer that every scene has been shot to look realistic, makes one wonder if this one belongs to the league of art house cinema.

Gowri Shankar, Padmapriya, Chandrasekhar Rao, Ajay and others form the other important star cast of the movie.  Lyrics are by Nagu Gavara, while the director lends both the screenplay and dialogue.

It is to be seen if the movie carries a special message, because it seems there is an offbeat theme in store.

Cinematography is by B Durga Kishore.
