Sankaranti

If you are looking for any great surprises in Sankranthi, you may not get it. It is a typical glycerine-filled, heart-tugging sentiments-covered family drama.

It is about four brothers tugged together by the chord of affection and love. Their father and mother have great faith in them. And they live up to that.

The drama element in the story is brought about by some typical villains and some interplay of emotions.

Though the story is typical, its handling is indeed warm and appealing. That is the reason why it was such a big hit in Tamil (Anandam). That is the reason why Super Good Films who made the flick in Tamil are remaking it in Telugu.

"It is a good family subject with all the elements of fun," says the director.

Among the four brothers, it is the big one who gets to shoulder all the responsibility. And quite naturally, Venkatesh gets that. It should be a good role for him. In the original, the ever-dignified Mammooty played it.

Venky fits the bill. After the fun of Vasantham and the action of Gharshana, this should be a good diversion for him. Ditto for Srikanth who is now emerging as the actor for second hero roles. After playing the second fiddle to Chiru in Shankar Dada MBBS, this is another good role for him.

Among the heroines, all eyes will be on Sneha and Arti Agarwal. Sneha, incidentally, acted in the Tamil original. But she is not playing the same role. For Arti, this should be an important film as she is on a comeback after a sabbatical. In fact, her role is pivotal to the essential drama of the story. Veteran Sharada is making an appearance in films after a long time.

The music by S A Rajkumar in Tamil was a major plus. He would want to carry on that same good work.

Super Good Films, which has made a name for it through family dramas, is hoping that its name is enhanced through Sankranthi.

The movie, which was (aptly) expected for Sankranthi, will be now released in February.
