The year 2008 has so far been a forgettable one for Tamil cinema as some real biggies like 'Kuselan' and 'Sathyam' took a tremendous blow at the box office.

However, a decent commercial reap by some small budget films like 'Subramaniapuram', 'Saroja' and 'Poi Solla Porom' would have made the filmdom breath a sigh of relief. A noteworthy fact is the above movies didn't feature pricey budgets or acclaimed stardom. The cast of these movies included a least of one or two new faces in them which didn't rebuff the audience from seeing the flick.

According to director Venkat Prabhu, 'If a movie engages the audience, it will become successful. 'Chennai 600028' and 'Saroja' were near to life and managed to associate closely with the audience.'

A part of the people in the industry says, "With mushrooming of multiplexes, obviously niche audience will come to theatres. As a result a movie like 'Poi Solla Porom' would have a good run even thought it lacks in star value."

A panel of fans say, "the audience are fed up watching the run-of-the-mill commercial masala entertainers. They want to see a different theme with a innovative and captivating story line."

Hope the film-makers are over hearing this remark with sharp ears!!!!!!!!
