Sarath Kumar is thrilled with the good opening for his maiden Malayalam venture ‘Pazhassi Raja’. The actor says he is happy with the positive feedback he has been getting from the ‘God’s own country’.

Sarath essays the role of Edachena Kunkan, the army chief of Pazhassi Raja (Mammootty), a freedom fighter. “Mammootty is an amazing actor who doesn't have any starry air around him. It is quite exciting to watch him act,” he says.

“As a patriotic person, I was attracted to the nationalistic feel that was in the story. I feel if we can make the youth of today patriotic through a film, it will be great. I think the youth of today do not know what their ancestors had gone through to get freedom. I am of the opinion that we have to make such films to rekindle the fire in us,” he adds.

On doing an off-beat role, Sarath Kumar, says, “every actor wants to reinvent himself. I too want to do challenging roles, different roles. This is one role that was different and I was immediately attracted by the story, its patriotism and realism. There was no question of me thinking twice before saying yes.”
