Sarathkumar, one of the lead actors of the multilingual 'Pazhassi Raja, has played down reports that ‘Pazhassi Raja’, a freedom fighter from Kerala, has been portrayed in the film as the first warrior in the country to fight against the British.

"We have not indulged in such act. He is respected and revered in Kerala for his patriotic spirit. Historians have been saying that the first uprising against British was 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, but Pazhassi Raja fought them long back. We have also mentioned about Tippu Sultan, Marudha Pillai and Pulithevan in the film," he says.

The Mammooty, Sarath starrer movie, a tale of a valorous freedom fighter from the God's Own Country, is all set for release on 2 October. The movie would be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

Directed by Hariharan and produced by Gokulam Gopalan, the movie has musical score by Illayaraja. Padmapriya plays the heroine. According to Mammootty, "we have made the movie after intense research. Suresh Krishna and Manoj K Jayan play prominent roles in the film."
