At the opening ceremony of University Cricket Championship 2013 at CCI in Mumbai recently, Shah Rukh Khan said, "I am very happy to be associated with University Cricket Championship.

Initiatives like UCC promise a brighter future for the young and aspiring sportsman of our country. I hope that more initiatives like this are taken to broaden the scope of sports in India. I wish lots of luck to the eight teams participating in UCC."

The event was also graced by music composing trio - Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy - and cricket star Rahul Dravid.

SRK, who will be next seen in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Chennai Express’, also urged to the Indian parents not to look at sports only as a hobby for their kids. "I am a big speaker of sports as a commercial success. Parents should know that it can be a salary job. Your kids will be very proud of you.

I am passionate about sports be it cricket, hockey, football or badminton and platforms like this give me as a sports enthusiast a hope for a brighter future in sports of all kinds in India," he added.
