Veteran actor, director and good orator Chennapattana Ramaswamy Shastri alias CR Simha died after long illness at Sevakshetra Hospital in Banashankeri on Friday afternoon.

Simha leaves behind wife Sharadamani, son Rithwik Simha, daughter Akila, well wishers, fans and others. The cremation is taking place of Simha on Saturday evening.

Like his name 'Simha' he was terror on stage and when it comes to cinema he was brilliant in dialogue delivery that was convincing for all.

CR Simha elder brother of veteran hero of Kannada cinema Dr Srinath (Pranayaraja) did not become a hero like his younger brother but proved his strength in all his works - writing, acting and debating. He was always a man full of enthusiasm and he knew how to enjoy his life.

A former employee of state government CR Simha developed his interest on stage from his National College days. The plays such as 'Bahaddur Ganda, Manavemba Markata, Kakana Kote, Tuglaq, Sankranthi, Typical Kailasam (over 200 shows), Meese Bandoru, Bhairavi, Karna, Kolminchu, Agni Maththu Male, Madhuve Madhuve, Haavu Yeni Aata, Rasarishi Kuvempu (over 100 shows), Sankranthi, Suryashikari, Shakespeare plays such as 'Macbeth', 'Midsummer Night' and 'Othello' his favorites Simha traveled worldwide.

'Samskara' was his debut in 1971 in a small role. Simha got attention for his rarity in acting and dialogue delivery. He made debut from 'Sankalpa', films like Anurupa, Chitegu Chinthe, Simhasana, Bara, Sukha Samsarakke Hanneradu Soothragalu, Indina Ramayana, Ramapurada Ravana, Hani Hani, Veera, Chickmagalur Chickkamallige, Swatantrapalya, Savari, Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna, Aidondla Idu are his popular films. Simha elder brother of Dr Srinath has also directed films like Angaiyalli Apsare, shikari, simhasana, ashwameda etc. He was a dubbing artist also in his career.

The Prostrate cancer disease in the last two years bothered this gentleman with straightforward approach. When he was appointed as chairman of Karnataka State Film awards in 2007-2008 to select best films and other awards, Simha resigned at the first meeting because he came to know the film he had acted 'Mathad Mathad Mallige' was in the contest in that year film list for awards.

May his soul rest in Peace!
