The comeback of director Shivamani in ‘Simhadri’ is nothing exceptional. The usual action from Duniya Vijay and tearjerker of sister sentiment gives a long yawn. The first half never moves and ‘Simhadri’ is a mix of ‘Thavarige Baa Thangi and Anna Thangi’ Kannada films! RS Gowda seems to have not come out from the ‘Thavarige Baa Thangi’ hangover. While the intimacy of brother and sister plus marriage is the first half. The second half is laced with melodrama of sister facing torture at in laws house. The seventh month traditional ‘Seemantha’ arrangements at brother house turns gory – it is sister final rites that brother does. What is ‘Simhadri’ in nutshell? Simhadri is darling of his people and problems. He is timid in front of his sister Nandini (Aishwarya). Anything asked by sister is put in to practice by Simhadri. So his match Suma (Soundarya) is also selection of sister. Although it is a right choice for Nandini in her selection for marriage, there is burning aspirations in the relatives of Nandini that finally take her life. The muscle power of Vijay is already seen in other films. The torture scenes for sister are also outdated. The comedy relief is missing. Arjuna Janya has some routine tunes. R Giri has captured the proceedings appealing to the eyes. On the whole director Shivamani of ‘Josh’ goes back in his thoughts. RS Gowda revolves around sentiment and action instead of upgraded subjects. Score – 4/10
