Singh Is Bling Review

"All that glitters is not gold"... This adage will no doubt be apt for this latest comedy caper; (or mad caper) of Prabhudeva, 'Singh Is Bliing'. The trailer looks all glossy, colourful, funny; laden with heavy dose of Punjabi Tadka. But once the audience takes a small bite of this, from the big screen, they can do nothing but only wonder what just hit them.....

Glossiness is there very much in 'Singh Is Bliing', but the shine is missing from the story. Colours are also there, but the screenplay leaves you bleak. It's funny no doubt, however overdosage of insanity will make you cringe. Akshay Kumar as Raftaar Singh is la Punjab ka Sravan Kumar who is a devoted son to his aged parents (Yograj Singh and Rati Agnihotri) and sticking to the title of the film, is a Singh with a Bling Heart (ahem Golden Heart). The only problem with this 'Puttar' is that he has the habit to leave any kind of job incomplete. In order to cure his drawback, his parents send him off to Goa for Good.

Enter Ms.Bikini Queen-cum-Action Diva, Amy Jackson as Sara, a daughter of Romanian based underworld. While you would have found Amy painful in a Malayali character in her debut film ('Ekk Deewana Tha'), in 'Singh Is Bliing' she might give you a headache in her attempt to turn into Punjabi Kudi. Instead, she is better off slipping on and off into bikinis as if it is her second skin. But we feel pity when the "phoren" chori tries to sink into the desi flavour; especially it shows in "Cinema Dekhe Mama" song as to how she tries hard to get her jhatakas and matakas right maintaining her cute smiling face throughout.

Back to the "so-called-story" (there's none in first place)... Sara is pursued by underworld don Mark (Kay Kay Menon), who is apparently paid only to mouth one line "I'm Too Good". He seems to be a villain, whom no one will take seriously.

Our Raftaar falls hopeless in love with Sara. But since language is a barricade between the two, he ropes in a hopeless mediator; Emily (Lara Dutt), who besides teaching language and love etiquette, has a weird problem - as to hit men at their "no-no point"! (OMG YES!)

Audience get treated with director Prabhudeva's special entries occasionally. Even that's also crosses the limit of slapstick comedy. His repeated "pissing" pisses off. (One may even gladly go out of the cinema hall for a leak every now and then, while watching this).

The movie drags on through illogical dialogues, pathetically so-called hilarious sequences, sickening female jokes, out-of-the-blue nonsensical dance song-and-dance items, missing story..... All this is only bliing, bliing, bliing, but when one thinks about the logical side, as a whole it's just poor fling, fling, fling.... It may impress the front benchers or the rural crowd. But this Singh's Bliing will make others yawn.... Like Raftaar's bad habit, this film turns out to be incomplete without any logic or purpose of its making... It might only make one think - Shall we head to Goa, to get better Entertainment????
