Son of Sardaar

What is it?

Directed by Ashwni Dhir, `Son Of Sardaar' (or SOS as popularly called) is loosely based on S.S.Rajamouli's Telugu film `Maryada Ramanna'. Co-bannered under Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Eros International, Ajay Devgn Ffilms, and YRV Infra Media, this masala entertainer stars Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla, Vindu Dara Singh, Tanuja, Mukul Dev and Arjan Bajwa while Salman Khan features in special track. While the film is alleged to be the remake of the 2010 Telugu movie, Dhir justified in an interview that although the plots are same, the rest is completely different. Incidentally `Maryada Ramanna' is actually the remake of 1923 American silent movie `Our Hospitality'.

The Story Outline

A peaceful, happy-go-lucky Sardaar from London Jassi gets caught in the web of feud, honour and revenge. Circumstances bring Jassi to Punjab and into the house of his enemy Billu Paji (Sanjay Dutt) - whose brother was killed by Jassi's father twenty five years back. Jassi has been clueless of this feud that had started three generations ago between his family and Billu Paji's family. Billu Paji had sworn to kill the next surviving member of Jassi's family. While Billu Paji and his male family members plot against killing Jassi, they are bound by the family's custom, that is - Atithi Devo Bhavah! A guest at home is to be treated like God even if he is their worst enemy. But outside the premise of the house - only God can help them! Although he wants to escape Jassi seeks to remain safe within the boundaries of the house since Billu Paji awaits outside, ready to kill off Jassi the moment he steps out. Meanwhile Meet (daughter of the deceased brother) falls in love with Jassi. How Billu plans to bring their enemy out of the house? Will he be successful in taking revenge? Will Jassi and Meet's love bring peace between the two parties? All these form the crux of the story.
