Several parts of Tamil Nadu were lashed by heavy rains recently under the influence of low pressure area in the Indian Ocean. Especially the hilly Nilgiris district was badly hit by the rain fury with over 40 human causalities. Many areas were cut off due to landslips on Ooty-Mettupalayam, Ooty-Kothagiri roads.

Officials said it would take week more to repair the Ooty-Kothagiri-Mettupalayam road battered by rains and blocked by boulders and uprooted trees.

After the recent trip to these flood affected areas of the Nilgiris district, actress Sona visited Tamil Nadu CM.M.Karunanidhi. The actress then handed over a donation of Rs 5 lakhs towards CM’s relief fund.

When asked about this she said, “I thought the best way to help the people who were affected by landslides was to donate to CM’s relief fund. When I visited the Nilgiris area and saw the plight of the poor people of the area”

It worthy to mention that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced a solatium of 1 lakh each to the blood relation of those who were killed in the rains in Nilgiris.
