Sooriyan

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

After delivering a hit in Mayilattam with V M Vinu, Jayaram is again teaming up with the hit specialist to create another miracle for him in this crucial point of his career.

For Jayaram, his box-office ratings are all low and so Sooriyan with V M Vinu in a way is an important film for the talented actor. The film is therefore a tailor made one for Jayaram to excel, with music, action, humor and family sentiments adequately mixed up to suit every type of audiences.

The film tells the story of Sooryanaryanan, son of Harinarayanan, a well known musician of yesteryears. Harinarayanan, who devoted his entire life to Carnatic music, had numerous disciples and believes in non - commercialization of classical s music. As everyone abides by the wishes of the great musician, no one in the family appear for paid kacheries. Sooryanarayanan was sent to the music academy to continue the family traditions in music and to achieve a better stature than even his father, Evan as Sooriyan completes his studies in music, his father falls to fatal illness and the family is surrounded by money lenders. It is only then that Sooryanarayanan realizes his father is neck deep in debt, trying to keep the traditions. To save his family from the clutches of the money lenders, he now starts a new living, keeping aside his career in music and traditions.

Jayaram has gone for a very different getup's including a bearded look for the new film, doing the role of Sooryanarayanan. The actor has not had a bearded look in his films for a long time, and his advisers were telling him to re invent himself by trying out an all-new look. Jayaram has also reduced his weight and looks trim in Sooriyan.

A new team of scriptwriters Satish.K Sivan and Suresh Menon are behind the story, which has enough family sentiments and twists. Vimala Raman who debuted with Time ' in Malayalam is Jayaram's heroine for the first time. She plays Maya - a radio jockey who falls for Sooryanarayanan, who is a regular caller to her programme asking for a particular song. The film has six songs set to music by maestro Ilayaraja in the lyrics of Gireesh Puthenchery. Yesudas, the master singer will also be playing a cameo in the film.

Saikumar does the role of Harinarayanan, while Nandhinee appears in the role of the sister of Sooriyan.  Harishree Ashokan, Madhupal, Hari, Babu Swamy, Vijayaraghavan, Kalaranjini, Veena, Baby Nayanthara, Baby Riya are also in the cast.

Sooriyan is being produced by Sri Chakra Films (P) Ltd. banner. The film is expected to get released this July.
