Sigappu Rojakkal created a sensation in the late 70s as it was a new psycho thriller genre introduced then by the director Bharathiraja. Coupled with the brilliant performances of Kamalhasan and Sridevi the film was a block buster. Now its official that the 1978 classic Sigappu Rojakkal will be remade my Bharathiraja’s son Manoj.

The remake will be the first directorial venture of Manoj. Though called a remake Manoj clarifies that it is not a shot by shot remake but largely based of the original story and screenplay. He has named his adaptation ‘Puthiya Sigappu Rojakkal’ and has asked both the lead stalwarts of the original to be associated at least in a small way. Manoj has requested Kamal to sing a song in the film. But to Sridevi… he has created a special role in the new version and has communicated it to her through his dad. Veteran Sridevi is yet to give her decision.

So who will play the imposing role of Kamal in the original? It will be Jeevan who has become a sort of remake specialist. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja and he hopes to recreate the magic of his father Ilayaraja in the 70s original.
