It has been almost two decades since the release of Suniel Shetty's surprise hit 'Gopi Kishan' (1994). Though over the years there have been talks about the film being remade, there hasn't been a concrete outcome. However so fascinated have the actor as well as the film's writer (Anees Bazmee) been about the character that they have decided to bring it back to audience all over again.

Though a remake is still a little far away, the character of 'Gopi' would be revisited by Shetty for his upcoming film 'Thank You' which is now not just written but also directed by Bazmee.

Informs a source attached to the film, "From the core storyline perspective, 'Thank You' is totally different from 'Gopi Kishan'. While former is a comedy around philandering husbands, latter was about a bumbling cop. Suniel Shetty had never forgotten 'Gopi Kishan' since it was one of his first big hits when he had just started out and that too with him in a double role. When Bazmee shared with him the idea of bringing back Gopi into 'Thank you', he jumped with joy and was game for it. He wanted Bazmee to incorporate the childish elements of Gopi into the character he is playing in 'Thank You'."

It is due to these childish traits that Shetty comes across as quite innocent despite his philandering ways in 'Thank You'. Also just like in 'Gopi Kishan' where he had a dominating wife in Shilpa Shirodkar, in 'Thank You' too he has Celina Jaitly calling the shots at home. However there is no famous dialogue around 'mere do do baap' in 'Thank You' which was actually a huge USP in 'Gopi Kishan' as Shetty's on-screen son mouthed it at number of instances.

Laughs Bazmee, "Yes, you won't find that dialogue here. However there is a lot more than that in 'Thank You' and you are sure to fall in love with Suniel's innocence here. The character of Gopi is something that Suniel as well as I remembered for years. We wanted that character to be re-enacted for long and when the opportunity came in 'Thank You', we just went ahead with it."
