External Affaires Minister Sushma Swaraj said she was not contending to be president and dismissed reports that said the contrary as "rumours". Neither the government nor the Opposition have declared their nominee for the presidential poll scheduled to be held on July 17; nominations will have to come in latest by June 28. Several names have been doing the rounds and Swaraj`s is one of them. Clearly, a consensus between the government and Opposition is not possible what with each side being reluctant to disclose the name of their nominee before the other side does.
