The Madras High Court on Monday restrained a soap manufacturer from using Tamannah’s photographs to market its products as the contract between the company and the actress has expired.

Justice V Ramasubramanian granted the interim injunction till June 8 while ordering notice to Power Soaps Limited and J & D Communications on a suit filed by Tamannah, who also sought Rs one crore as damages for the exploitation of her popularity in breach of the agreement dated October 7, 2008.

In her application, Tamannah stated that Power Soaps Limited had approached her, through J & D Communications, for promoting its products by appearing as its brand ambassador.

An agreement dated October 7, 2008 was entered into. The agreement was valid till October 6, 2009. Even after the agreement period, the material produced earlier for advertisements were being used unlawfully.

Though notices were sent to the company and its agency on January 18, 2011 and February 1, 2011, the replies were evasive which prompted her to file a legal suit claiming a compensation of Rs one crore for the violation, she said.
