Tamil dub to Kannada, protest on anvil

The first dubbed film in Kannada from Tamil is set for release on 3rd March, 2017 – the birthday of Kannada cinema. From 1960 the dubbed films in Kannada were kept away as a cultural policy. Biggest luminaries of Indian cinema have supported this movement started by Dr Rajakumar and others. When Bharath 2000 was made as dubbed film in Kannada by SV Rajendra Singh Babu, he received brickbats and film was taken back by Dr Ramoji Rao, the biggest name of South Indian cinema.

With the division of Karnataka film chamber of commerce the dubbing films in Kannada is once again in the controversy. A majority of Kannada film industry protest this Dubbing`, a small team of Kannada cinema industry lead by Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce President Krishne Gowda is hell bent on releasing dubbed film in Kannada on 3rd March, 2017.

As a result the first dubbed film officially hitting the silver screen is from Tamil language. It is Yennai Arindaal` directed by Gautham Menon, titled in Kannada as Sathyadev IPS – Thala Ajith, Anushka Shetty and Trisha in the cast, it was released in February 2015.

Darshan Enterprises is releasing this Tamil dubbed film.

Karnataka state Kannada cultural policy of over six years has taken a strong beating with this allowance of dubbed cinema.
