Years back there was a film called 'Teesri Aankh' that starred Dharmendra in the lead role. In 2006, it's the turn of elder son Sunny Deol to arrive as a lead in the namesake movie that has an extended title 'Teesri Aankh - The Hidden Camera'. Others in the starcast are Amisha Patel, Neha Dhupia, Ashish Chaudhary and Arti Chabaria while a horde of composers ,Sukhshinder Shinda, Harry Anand and Nitz'N'Sony, get together for handling the music department. Harry Baweja returns to direct his forte (action drama) after trying his hands with a sensitive theme in 'Main Aisa Hi Hoon'.
1) Chug De Punjabi [Singer: Jazzy B, music: Sukhshinder Shinda, lyrics: Karamjeet Kadhowala]
Have you cheered up to the idea of hearing Jazzy B in a mainstream Hindi movie? And that for a song that features him dancing to the beats? Well, then there is a good news for all Jazzy B fans as he comes up with a hardcore Punjabi pop number 'Chug De Punjabi'. A dance floor number that has Amisha Patel shaking legs with Jazzy B, it is a good hit in the making due to its racy rhythm coupled with rustic flavor. The beginning of song may be a little predictable but then as the song progresses, the heat builds up. This Sukhshinder Shinda composed track should be popular in the Hindi belt and should also manage to woo the NRI audience.
2) Assi Teri Gal Karni (Original and remix) [Singers: Sonu Nigam, Suzzanne, music: Harry Anand, lyrics: Sameer]
Punjabi feel to the album continues with 'Assi Teri Gal Karni' that carries the theme of 'I want to talk to your father for your hand'! A North India 'shaadi-byaah' celebration number, though it looks a bit awkward to see 40 something Sunny paaji trying to woo a 20 something Neha Dhupia, it can still be heard on due to good music by Harry Anand. In both its original and remix format, it is Sonu Nigam who dominates the show with his free flow rendition that makes this Punjabi-Hindi number enjoyable. Though it is not a classic by any means, it should enliven the narrative of 'Teesri Aankh' which has dramatic undertones.
3) Titliyan Titliyan (Original and remix) [Singers: Sonu Nigam, Shweta Pandit, music: Harry Anand, lyrics: Sameer]
Step back to the 80s style 'ched-chaad' number, 'Titliyaan', that tires to be all fun but is hardly any. An outdated number to the core, it has upcoming singer Shweta Pandit teaming up with Sonu Nigam. But the presence of such talented singers also cannot salvage this rhythmic number much, both in its original and hardly different remix version. One wonders if this track will really be able to make it to the final print of the movie and even if it does so, would that be in its entirety or not!
3) Sharaabiyon (Original and remix) [Singer: Asha Bhonsle, music: Nitz'N'Sony, lyrics: Nitin Nitz Arora]
Album continues to be stuck in a time zone with 'Sharaabiyon', a 70s-80s style cabaret which would be known as an item number in today's language. An okay number, it works mainly in its lounge version that comes later. There are new people behind this song - Nitz'N'Sony as the composers and Nitin Nitz Arora as the lyricist. Well, they may have to wait for another opportunity to make a mark.
In short, 'Teesri Aankh' is an ordinary album with just 'Chug De Punjabi' and 'Assi Teri Gal' (to an extent) that work. Overall, the album can be given a skip as soon there should be compilation albums that would feature these two tracks as well.
