Tere Bin Laden Dead or Alive Review

Expectations

In the year 2007 a small film 'Bheja Fry' got released and ended up being a huge hit in terms of its revenue generation. The movie also encouraged many small film makers to churn out such content driven films with a hope of getting a theatrical release. The next big success came in form of 'Tere Bin Laden' which catered a global issue and managed to hit the right chord with its audience. These movies restarted the trend of small comical films and now after five years, the makers of ‘Tere Bin Laden’ are back with its sequel 'Tere Bin Laden - Dead or Alive'. The movie looks bigger in terms of its making and has Manish Paul and Sikander Kher as its new entrants. Thus, the expectation levels are at its peak due to the recall value of 'Tere Bin Laden' and the hilarious promo of its sequel.

Story

'Tere Bin Laden - Dead or Alive' is a story of a director Sharma (Manish Paul) and his folk singer friend Paddi Singh (Pradhuman Singh). Paddi's face resembles international terrorist Osama Bin Laden and with his help, Sharma directs a comical film 'Tere Bin Laden'. 'Tere Bin Laden' turns out to be a massive hit, after which Sharma plans to churn out sequels to this film. But, at that time the news of Osama Bin Laden’s mysterious death came out and the producers decide to shelve the films. Meanwhile the US government is under the pressure of showing proof of Osama's death and in order to get a fake one US agent David (Sikander Kher) disguises as a Hollywood producer Chadda and signs Sharma and Paddi for his film. David's plan is to make Paddi look like Osama so that his army troops can eliminate Paddi and show the world that how US troops killed Osama Bin Laden. Paddi gets stuck in between David, Sharma and Khalli (Piyush Mishra) an arms dealer and wants the world to believe that Osama is alive.

Positive Points

There are some good comical moments in the middle of the film which will keep you engaged to the film. Scenes of Manish Paul, Pradhuman Singh and Sikander Kher are hilarious. 'Hum Item Wale' song in the end credits is foot tapping. Director Abhishek Sharma tries to recreate the magic of 'Tere Bin Laden' and partially succeeds in some places. Manish Paul is fine in his part and one will love his story narration scene. Pradhuman Singh is cute and does his part with grace. Sikander Kher is superb in his role. His body mannerisms and menacing looks along with an American accent is worth a watch. Piyush Mishra is hilarious in his role.

Negative Points

The story takes a lot of time in establishing the main plot. There are many side tracks which fail to tickle your funny bone followed by few over the top track which were totally unwanted. Obama's hallucinations followed by him visiting the targeted area, etc. are unconvincing. In the finale part, the movie goes bit hotchpotch due to which the entertainment quotient goes down. More funny moments and situations were required in order to match up to the madness of ‘Tere Bin Laden’. The camera work is strictly average. Ali Zafar's song should have been omitted. Director Abhishek Sharma fails to surpass 'Tere Bin Laden', due to messy screenplay and over the top cinematic liberties. Sugandha Garg, Rahul Singh and others are wasted. The cameo by Ali Zafar was unwanted.

Two Line Review

'Tere Bin Laden - Dead or Alive' has its few enjoyable moments, especially in the second half of the film. But at end of the day this sequel lacks the madness of its first part.
