Director Thankar Bachan, who had a bitter experience while releasing his film, has sought Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s intervention to solve such problems in future.

The director with distinction had a tough time when he approached the theatres to release his 'Onbathu Ropai Notut' recently. He couldn’t get theatres, as Chennai was gearing up for some major releases. Though he somehow managed to get some screens, he couldn’t tolerate the treatment given to the low budgeted films with less star value.

He has decided to take on the system and as a first step, he has submitted a three pointed memorandum to the CM. In the memorandum, he has sought to restrict the number of prints made for a film.

He has vouched for only one print per area. He is against minting money by releasing the same film in as many screens. This practice, according to him, discourages the small players.

He has also urged the government to construct theatres in various places and encourage low budgeted and quality films.

Thankar’s plea might sound impossible in the current scenario. But there is no denying fact that he has voiced the concerns of many small players, who struggle to compete with the big shots.

Tail: Thankar, who has been churning out tragedies, is planning to make a comedy fare for a change. Sources close to him reveal that he might don the lead role in the film.
