'Thanu Nenu' had a reason to be attractive for those who were not excited by the wall poster where we see the vivacious Avika Gor and her sweetheart smile their way as Ravi Babu looks on hanging on the wall.  Well, as posters and trailers go, this one was unique because Ravi Babu, the quirky face of all, seemed to be given a big place in the film.  For others who look for names, this one has Ram Mohan P as director.  Having produced films like 'Ashta Chamma', 'Golkonda High School', and the recent 'Uyyala Jampala', he has carved a niche for himself as a producer with good taste.  As a debutante director, he works his way through a rom-com.

The film begins with an unlikely scene.  The hero is given a tight slap by the heroine and he starts off telling his story to the audience.

Kiran (Santosh Shobhan) is a BPO employee with a prejudice toward USA.  Keerthi (Avika Gor) is his sweetheart.  Now, Bandreddy Sarveshwara Rao (Ravi Babu), Keerthi's father, is single-mindedly obsessed about sending his daughter to America.  He had thoroughly brainwashed her into seeing his dream as hers ever since childhood.  With Kiran's entry into Keerthi's life, there is a catch.  Will Keerthi choose her love interest over her father's dream?  The interval bang ends on an interesting note.

While the story line evokes interest, the narration is reasonably witty.  Having selected good faces, the director delivers a decent entertainer.  Santosh Shobhan may not be handsome for a Telugu cinema hero, but his timing and dialogue delivery are likely to help him make a mark.  Avika Gor needs no introduction; she is a natural and her flair for natural acting shows itself in the proceedings.  Surely, the Uyyala Jampala actress is slowly making a mark of her own.

Ravi Babu gets to speak some funny lines.  His conversations with his wife, played by Sathya Krishna, are among the best comedy scenes.  Although there are no scenes that make you convulse with laughter, the witty lines are sure to make you smile.

The characterizations are neat, not to mention Sunny MR's good BGM.  The cinematography again is good, thanks to which the actors look better than they are.

However, the second half slackens in terms of narration.  The audience waits for the reason behind Kiran's dislike for America, but when she gets it, she is not that excited.  There was a need for some emotional connect all throughout.

While the second half has its share of pluses too, the same could have been more.

The actors are, finally, the ones who are the best part of the film.  Dialogue cackle once in a while.  Some real-life references are comedic.

Verdict: Thanu Nenu is a feel-good film with a simple story line.  For all its slackened pace in the second half, it carves a niche for itself.  Watch out for Santosh Shobhan, Avika Gor, Ravi Babu and Sathya Krishna.
