Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

Debutante director Baiju 2D's 'Thavalam' is one of the film from Suresh Gopi that will make into theatres for this Onam. The movie produced by Jagadhesh Chandran in the banner of Kichu Films was extensively shot at Theni in Tamil Nadu. In fact, this is the first movie of Suresh Gopi to get completed in the picturesque locations of Theni.

`Thavalam' is based on a real life story of one Muthu who lived around the Ernakulam bus stand. His actual life story is trimmed to suit the screen by the director Baiju 2D. The movie has Suresh Gopi as Sivan, a member of the gypsy group who roams around the cities to make a living. The super star is in a different get up with a grayish tone and pretty ordinary looks that makes you remember a vagabond.

In the movie Sivan lives with his only daughter Meenakshi in a village named mayilpetty. The movie opens with Dasan Menon and his wife Usha, who are the regular visitors to the temple of the village. According to the local sayings, they also believe that if they come over to this temple three times in a month, they will be blessed with a child. In one of the visits, some of their money gets stolen and the blame falls on Meenakshi kutty who passes around the temple. Both Sivan and his daughter are arrested for the robbery but in little time local teashop owner, Panikkar, arrives at the station with the actual culprit. Sivan and his little daughter are set free but the family finds an excessive interest in the father and his daughter and starts asking them about their life.

While debutante Rithya is the heroine, Navya Nair will be doing a brief yet key role in the film. Baby Diya is Meenakshy while Nedumudi appear as Panikkar in the movie. The cast also includes Jagathy Sreekumar, Cochin Haneefa, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Riyaz Khan, Bijukuttan, Manraj, Mamookoya, Jaffer Idukki, Urmila Unni, Bindu Panicker and Prajoosha

Based on script by Socrates Vaalaththu, `Thavalam' has songs penned by Gireesh Puthencherry and Sudhamshu and set to tune by Kaithapram Viswanath. Vipin Mohan cranks camera for `Thavalam', which will be brought to the theatres by Kichu films.
