Not that one was highly bullish about the releases this Friday but it must be admitted that there was a curiosity around a rookie's film, an anticipation about an ace director, a sympathy for a national award winning actress, a hope from a mega producer... Alas, it looks none of the above expectations are met with.
Satya 2 is quickly discounted as a desperate attempt by a fading phenomenon called RGV by critics, fans and general audiences alike. While the title promised the magic of the original, the sequel is just a pale imitation of his own cult classics including Satya, Sarkar or Company.
While in the other movies, 'Kali Charan' stood out in the pre-release campaign, the movie looks to have disappointed in terms of story and entertainment though it scored on the high visual quotient. It needs to be seen if the movie will be picked up by the young audiences for the raw appeal and make some noise after the weekend.
'Nenem Chinna Pillana' by Rama Naidu, directed by award winning director Sunil Kumar Reddy is the one film that looks to have reached the expectations that are minimal. One of the films that is a strong contender to drag the family crowds, if the film can march on to the second week, it could get some families.
'Chandi' is a mass entertainer with a female protagonist that delivers one liners and thigh thumping and fist wrenching fights. While the reviewers or the readers are not the target group of this film, the rural and small town folks are also not seen to be enthusiastic about the film as the reports come in.
The fifth is a small film with no enthusiasm around it neither in the audiences nor in the reviewers.
This is only the first pulse. History has proved many times the first reading could go wrong and movies that were written off by pundits have bounced back with a strong word of mouth and it will be a welcome relief to the industry and the audiences alike to see one of the movies do such act.
