Passes muster
Friday, August 30, 2013 • Telugu Comments

Considering that Thoofan is a Bollywood gift to Telugu audience, one expected something high.  Five songs set to tune by five musicians (Chirantan Bhatt, Anand Raj Anand, Meet-Bros-Anjjan) is not a great offer, it passes muster.

Our lyricists entertain with their trademark sensuous lyrics.

Mumbai Ke Hero

Artists: Jaspreet Jasz, Roshni Baptist, Ram Charan
Music: Chirantan Bhatt

Chirantan Bhatt's music is a treat to listen.  The Bollywoodish touch will surely be savoured for this intro song by one and all.  The vocals are perfect. Charan's lines litter the song to raise heroism to a new high.

Pinkie

Artist: Mamata Sharma
Music: Meet Bros Anjjan

Vizag and Warangal are invoked to lend it a Telugu nativity.  This item song doesn't wash, as it is quite mundane.  If the beats are just about ok, Mamata Sharma's vocals are the only relief.  The lyrics are somewhat innovative, though.

Preminchaa

Artists: Mynampati Sreerama Chandra, Shalmali Kholgade
Music: Chirantan Bhatt

For Charan, this song is perhaps the trendiest romantic song since Orange, but there is nothing of that Harris Jayaraj magic here.  The beats are soothing, the singers lend their share of refreshing talent.

Vechchanaina

Artist: Shweta Pandit
Music: Meet Bros Anjjan

This song is too Bollywoodish.  There is a whiff of Diljalon Ka Dil Jalaake from the original Zanjeer.  What is a big treat is Shweta Pandit's mellifluous voice.  Whether this song becomes a hit in Telugu will depend on how best it is on the celluloid.

Shakila Centu

Artist: Shreya Ghoshal
Music: Anand Raj Anand

After this song, one wonders if the director intended to make this album a complete item songs album, punctuated with a sensuous number. Of the five songs, three belong to this genre.  Shreya Ghoshal is at her usual best. Anand Raj Anand's music has an oldish ring to it.
