The forest department has registered a case against popular actor Mohanlal before the Perumbavur Judicial Magistrate, under the Wildlife protection Act 1972, for "illegal possession of ivory at his house."

A first information report has been filed at the Judicial First Class Magistrate court, Perumbavur, by the Forest officials. Ivory was seized from the residence of the actor in a raid conducted by the Income Tax officials in 2011.

It was in July last year that the IT department officials searched the houses of actors Mammootty and Mohanlal. The operation also spread to other cities where the two had houses and business interests.

Meanwhile, PN Krishnakumar and N Krishnakumar, second and third accused respectively, have stated they had obtained permission from wildlife authorities for the possession of ivory which was later handed over to Mohanlal for safe custody as they were employed abroad.
