Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Tamil Comments

Pooja (laila) Eman (Arya) Priya (Asin) Shaam (Shaam) and Irene (Pooja) the five friends and college mates known as the PEPSI gang and their activities in the campus forms the story of Ullam ketukumae. This film will bring the nostalgia in those who have passed out of college while those in college will identify with the happenings on screen. The romance, heartbreaks, aspirations and frustrations of the students are shown through many happenings. It's just not a case of students but also a strong statement is made.

One cannot achieve anything without sacrificing something in life says Jeeva the cinematographer turned director. Jeeva worked with directors like Vasanth and Shankar and turned director with 12B. It launched Shaam the actor. Its music was too a hit. Though at the box office it was not a hit the film got attention among the youth. Now he is introducing Arya, Asin and Pooja (it's her first film that she signed but Jay Jay got released before). Other youngsters who make their debut in the film are Srinath, Abimanyu, Kailash, Vishaal, Veandan, JapanKumar, Deepa, Priyanka and Harini.

A song sung by Shaam at the farewell day says the director will go down well with the masses coz the lyrics by Vairamuthu is so touching and tender. Harris Jayraj has composed the music. Similarly an inter college day cultural had 100 students from various states take part in the shooting. Onlookers were astounded to see the decorations and podium for a marriage scene in Taj Connemara hotel and much thought a real wedding was on. This was possible due to the creativity of art director Thotta Tharani. Raju sundaram choreographed five songs including a song shot at hot water springs in New Zealand.

Sujatha who the first choice for youth movies has written the dialogues which has the campus lingo intact. Jeeva who also is the cinematographer has with great difficulty maintained a same color shade throughout the film. The film's music by Harris Jayraj plays an important part in the film says Jeeva.

The film has its share of action through campus violence and here again Vikram Dharma has handled it with care to make look different from the filmy fights. Mahadevan, Ganesh and Usha Venkatramani produce the film under the banner of Amni (P) ltd

With his last release Iyarkai biting the dust, Shaam pins a lot of hope on Ullam Ketkumae More.
