Undertrial

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Hindi Comments

Inspired from a true story that shook the world, 'Undertrial' is a shocking tale of crime, trial, verdict and punishment, all this and more even when the legal authorities have to still pronounce their verdict.

Sagar Hussain [Rajpal Yadav] was an ordinary middle class man. Coming from a humble background, he was Sameena's [Monica Castellino] husband and a father. But life changed forever for him when he was accused of raping his daughters for as many as 8 years and conspiring to murder them. Was it the worst? No, because it had yet to come as even his wife stood up against him and wanted him to be punished.

But was he indeed a criminal here?

None knew but the trial by fire had already begun! Whether it was his fellow inmates, police authorities, media, people around him, just everyone pounced on the story and started believing the theory that he indeed was the man who had committed the heinous crime.

While the court was yet to try and prove him as guilty or innocent, his life was already in a deep mess. With no support around him and only hatred and ridicule welcoming him at every step, Sagar had turned into a nervous wreck.

He was lodged into the Central Jail as an 'undertrial' while his case was on. On one side there was Public Prosecutor P.P. Verma [Prem Chopra] who along with Sameena was readying the case to ensure that the minimum punishment he got was life imprisonment, on the other there was noted lawyer Ravi Vishnoi [Kader Khan] who had never lost a case in his life.

And above them was Justice Jaya Reddy [Pratima Kazmi] who was considered to be the toughest nut to crack when it came to court matters.

What would happen to Sagar? Will he be proved guilty? Or would it turn out that he was an innocent man after all? And if that was the case, why did his wife turn against him? Why were his daughters quite all this while?

Above all, even if he was let scot free, would his life be the same again ever? Will he be able to remove the scars that have hit his heart and soul over the period of times? Will he be a normal man again?

Produced by Nazim Rizvi, this Aziz Khan directed film has Anu Malik and Shamir Tandon composing while Sandip Nath and Sameer in charge of writing the songs. 'Undertrial' is all set for release on 29th December.
