The astrological calculations made at the launch of 'Kalki' on September 18, 2005 – the birthday of superstar Upendra has gone wrong. After eight days of shooting at Mysore the film has been dropped for wrong signals got by producer Munirathnam of 'Aunty Preethse' and 'Raktha Kanneeru' fame. Producer Munirathnam believed in the lucky number 9. September 18 – both point to 9 (month is 9 th month and 1+8=9). On the muhurut day at Kanteerava studio producer Munirathnam introduced a numerologist and said this is the 18th film of Upendra and 27th April the film would be released. This again point to lucky No.9

But what happened now? The director of the film has been changed. Cameraman Krishnakumar took the responsibilities of direction. Now the news is that both Munirathnam and Upendra have decided to drop the film at this stage.

This is the third time producer Munirathnam is shelving his project after announcement. First it was the announcement of 'Hindu' for the direction of S.V.Rajendra Singh Babu. The second was the lavish announcement of 'Devdaas' – both starring Upendra. Now 'Kalki' that was on the lines of Tamil film 'Amadhi Pade' starring Sathyaraj.

According to Gandhinagar gossip Upendra is eyeing on '16 Vaidhinale' remake. He has suggested to one of the producers that was quietly turned down.
