Usually films that are delayed for various reasons do not do well at the box office. But looks like Vajram is a happy exception to it. This Mammooty starrer has the perfect blend that the industry usually talks about to keep the viewers engrossed. Yet, if you are looking at quality and sensitive content, Vajram is not the film for you. It is aimed at the box office.
Vajram is about Devarajan (Mammootty), a Mafioso turned crane operator. Circumstances and the shenanigans of one of his relatives (Kalasala Babu) see to that Devarajan is separated from his rich wife Nanda (Nandini). In the event, he is also separated from his son Appu (Mithun). Amidst all this, one of the many villains in the film aims for the fortune and money of Nandini. Then there is Williams (Babu Antony) the scheming husband of actress Gemini (Vasundhra Das). He wants to eliminate her to inherit her wealth. The rest of the film is about how Devarajan foils the evil intentions of Williams and others and gets back to his wife and son. In the process, he also ensures the safety of Gemini.
The film reeks of masala ingredients; but it may work because it has the got the mix right. The music by Ousepachan is adequate with the songs by Vasundhra Das being noteworthy. The action scenes are robust while the comedy with Harisri Asokan is good.
On the acting front, Mammotty is polished while Nandini and Vasundhra are okay. Director Pramod Pappan, a newcomer, seems largely in control though he looks averse to taking risks.
If you are looking for some mass entertainment, Vajram won't disappoint you.
