It looks official.

Vijayakanth, the Captain of the Tamil film industry, has announced that he will launch a political party at a conference September.

The party's name, ideology, objectives and why he enters politics will be made public then.

"I am sure the party would help to bring about key changes in the socio-political set-up," Vijayakanth said.

He did not specify anything on the name of the party but said the flag, being used by fan clubs, would come in handy.

He said he wanted to "swim against the political currents for a good cause" and hence the party launch.

"I am opposed to corruption and caste politics and want both eradicated," he said announced and added he was opposed to the imposition of Tamil or any other language on anyone.

Vijayakanth said there were 27 lakh members in his fan clubs and they were his biggest asset in starting the party. It would not hesitate to contest elections, if the need arose.

"One needs patience and perseverance to make it big in politics," he said.

Apparently taking a dig at PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, Vijayakanth said, "I firmly believe that there is no need for repeatedly blaming others. I will answer them at an appropriate time at an appropriate forum".
