Mani Nagaraj is introducing composer GV Prakash as an actor with his upcoming project 'Pencil'. Heroine of this film is Sridivya and the film also stars Sharik, Oorvasi, Gajendran, Thirumurugan and many others, with GV Prakash scoring music. The film was earlier reported to be a thriller and later it was added that the story is school-based. But what really is 'Pencil' all about? Director Mani Nagaraj explains that 'Pencil' is both and even more.

"Although we may tend to use a pencil all through our life, the instrument loses its significance soon after school life. The film is based on this concept. An unacceptable event occurs in the life of a set of school goers and they find it very hard to come out of the shaking experience. From there on, it takes the screenplay takes a thriller route. We needed someone to fit into the role of a high school student, and we zeroed in on GV Prakash. Though he initially hesitated, the composer later agreed to debut as hero."
