'Shanghai' has been ready for quite some time but the makers were (rightly so) not in a hurry to release the film. They wanted to find the best release slot instead of rushing up the film's arrival in theatres and hence quietly walked away from 26th January D-Day when 'Agneepath' decided to occupy that slot.

Now that the film is aiming for a June release, things are picking up again for 'Shanghai'. Still, one wonders though why director Dibakar Banerjee lied low for last few months when in the interim period he could have rather started working on his next film.

"Who says I am not working? It is just that I am not shooting yet", smiles Dibakar, "See, for my kind of projects you generally need to start a lot in advance to reach the stage where you can start calling the shots. I can't thrown money at the problems and fetch a solution, just like it happens in big Bollywood films. I have to be fully prepared instead of just thinking about stars, their dates and their costumes. Fortunately or unfortunately, I cant work on such films due to which I have to cast and prepare for a much longer time. That's a choice I have made on my own accord so no regrets here."

This means that for the moment, one would have to be content with 'Shanghai'. Led by Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol, the film stars Kali Koechelin as the female protagonist and also features Prosenjit Chatterjee and Farooq Sheikh in key roles. With music by Vishal-Shekhar, the film releases all over on 8th June.
