Suriya's 24 is set to hit the screens on May 6. The promotions of the film are striking for two reasons: Vikram Kumar's active pre-release participation, and the projection of the film as a product of 'the Maker of Manam'. Vikram Kumar was never known to participate in promotions prior to the release of his movie. Remember that he hadn't given interviews and shied away from public glare before the release of Manam. But this time, he is actively promoting 24, his ambitious sci-fi flick.

On the other hand, the phrase 'From the maker of Manam' is not surprising, given that a large chunk of the cine-going population likes it, but one raises eye brows because such resting on laurels is not required given Suriya's humongous popularity in the Telugu States.

Meanwhile, Sreshth Movies, owned by Nithiin's family members, have confined themselves to releasing the movie in two distribution areas, while the production house was actually expected to be the Telugu version's producers. Why this change of mind?

Well, Suriya and Vikram Kumar both have a track-record of proving the sceptics wrong. One hopes they will deliver a blockbuster with 24.
