A few months ago director Vishnuvardhan had revealed that he was working with senior Tamil writer Balakumaran for a period flick set in the 9th century AD.

Ever since the news came out, there were widespread speculations that Ajith Kumar will be acting in the lead role in this film. These speuculations were based on Vishnuvardhan's closeness and track record with Ajith and also on the assumption that such a huge project would require a star like Ajith with tremendous market value. There were also speculations that this film will be about Raja Raja Chola and the Big Temple in Thanjavur built by him and hence Ajith will be acting as the king Raja Raja in the film.

Now part of this speculation has turned out to be true as the veteran Balakumaran has confirmed that he is indeed penning a story for Ajith and the story is about a Chola king. However the writer clarified that the story is not about Raja Raja, the most famous king of the Chola clan and the highly prestigious Big Temple.

Vishnuvardhan for his part has stated that the project is presently in scripting stage and he will make the official announcement as soon as things get finalized.

This will be Thala Ajith's first period flick and that's surely going to be a mammoth treat for Thala fans as well as Tamil movie buffs.

Balakumaran has penned the dialogues for Ajith's 'Ullasam' that released in 1997.
