It was mentioned in this column last week that all was not yet lost for 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' as the word of mouth could still manage to bring a turnaround for the film. Well, fortunately for the film, this is what happened as it has turned out to be one of those rare films that has hardly seen a drop in collections despite not so positive opening. This all-new affair managed to stay steady at the box office and in the process garnered as much as 5.5 crores as the first week came to a close.

Of course the makers would have expected more than this but when compared to the 'thanda' reception on the Friday, a stable outing like this has come as a shot in the arm for all involved. The film has done well over the second weekend as well which means it is now comfortably seated in a safe zone. An open fortnight has helped its cause and though Hollywood releases did dent it's collections, the inherent merits of the film have turned it into an average success. As things stand today, the film should eventually manage to inch towards the 10 crores mark.

The same can't be said about '404' though which has vanished without a trace. The film barely managed to cross the 1 crore mark and then lost out on the battle with hardly any shows in the running during the second week. A pity because the film deserved better. 'Kashmakash' is trying to keep itself in news by coming up with half page advertisements around the good critical reception that it received from some quarters. However it is futile since there is only a multiplex or two left and that too in select cities where the film is still being screened. A box office disaster.
